Cows For Cambodia

Cows for Cambodia is a grassroots charity based in Siem Reap, Cambodia that helps break the poverty cycle in rural Cambodia, and it all starts with a pregnant cow. They loan pregnant cows to families in need. Once the calf is born, the family raises it as their own, and the original cow returns to our farm to begin the cycle again. Each year, families can sell a calf at the market which can double their annual income. They also use the cow’s manure as fertiliser to boost their crop Yields.

It’s about creating independence, not dependence. But it doesn’t stop there. Thanks to the generosity of donors, the charity now also supports:

  • Free education at our Agricultural Learning Centre and Chambok Future School Housing projects for vulnerable families
  • Food relief through through Rice Runs
  • Ongoing community support in rural villages

Everything they do is designed to give families a leg up, not just a handout.

I have had first hand experience with the charity by taking part in one of their Tours of Cambodia. On this trip we immersed ourselves in the village culture, worked with the cows at the charity farm, participate in vaccinations and pregnancy testing of the cows, cooked  400 school students a nutritious hot meal at one of local villages, took school kids on an excursion to a water park, built a house for a family in need, and delivered over 3,000kg of rice to those who need it most.

With the purchase of every Kiri doll we will purchase 5 meals for Cambodian Families via their regular rice runs.
